Ex-Amazon employee accused of stealing over $100,000 worth of goods from warehouses

A former Amazon employee is accused of stealing more than $100,000 worth of goods from the company’s warehouses in the Southeast. Investigators say at least one of those robberies happened in the Atlanta metro area.

Markece Ryans is charged in Georgia with stealing more than $30,000 worth of merchandise from Amazon’s large fulfillment center in Coweta County.

A Coweta County Sheriff’s Office investigator said Ryans knew how to navigate the large building from entrance to exit. In doing so, he is accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars worth of Apple products and other electronic devices. The flights were not only in Georgia, but also in Alabama and Mississippi.

Investigators say the 28-year-old was arrested in Alabama and will eventually be extradited to Georgia. He is accused of stealing more than $100,000 worth of merchandise from Amazon fulfillment centers in Huntsville, Alabama as well as Hornlake and Olive Branch in Mississippi in addition to Newnan.

Investigators say that since Ryans targeted Amazon’s fulfillment center in Newnan, the company has tightened security, hoping to prevent any further thefts.
