Meijer will host an event for general merchandise and apparel suppliers

Meijer continues its commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion, as well as local industry, with an upcoming vendor recruitment event focused on general merchandise and apparel.

Meijer is inviting submissions from local and diverse businesses for its latest Supplier Diversity event focused on general merchandise and apparel. Interested vendors must submit videos depicting their brand and products by September 18 to be considered for the opportunity to pitch to Meijer dealers at a virtual live event this fall.

“While we have made great strides in ensuring that our suppliers represent our customers in terms of diversity and geography in our stores, we are excited to host this event which specifically focuses on general merchandise and apparel,” said Peter Whitsett, director of Meijer. vice president of merchandising and marketing.

The retailer’s latest supplier diversity initiative targets certified minority, LGBTQ+, female, veteran, and disabled businesses based across the country, as well as local Midwest suppliers based in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin.

Diverse or local brands with retail-ready products in general merchandise or apparel categories can apply here. As part of the application process, vendors must submit brief videos of 3 minutes or less that provide information about their company and products. Videos can be created on smartphones and do not need to be professionally produced; however, they must include the following information:

  • Presentation of themselves and their company;
  • Detailed descriptions of the products they offer;
  • Context of their production and supply chain;
  • Recommended retail price; and
  • Qualified companies can submit videos by Sunday, September 18 for consideration.

Once entries for the event have been submitted, Meijer teams will review and select the finalists. Finalists will submit additional details through the retailer’s partner, RangeMe, and attend a training session before presenting their products live to Meijer dealers at a virtual event this fall.

Although they may not qualify for this event, diverse or local vendors offering services or products outside of the categories mentioned above are encouraged to submit their information for review through the retailer’s potential vendor. page.
