Merchandise trade continues to rise in February

Macau’s total merchandise imports rose 38.7% year-on-year to 10.56 billion patacas (about $1.31 billion) in February 2022, while merchandise exports stood at 1. 01 billion patacas, up 39.2% year on year, the Special Administrative Region (SAR),” the statistics service said on Wednesday.
The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed that the merchandise trade deficit stood at 9.54 billion patacas in February.
In the first two months of this year, the total value of merchandise imports increased by 35.7% year-on-year to reach 24.61 billion patacas, while total merchandise exports increased by 13.4% to reach 2.45 billion patacas, the report said.
Analyzed by place of origin, imports of goods from the European Union (EU) and the Chinese mainland in the first two months of 2022 increased by 59.3% and 8.2% year-on-year to reach 9.33 billion patacas and 7.01 billion patacas respectively.
Analyzed by destination, merchandise exports to the mainland fell 26.5% year-on-year to 175 million patacas. Exports to Hong Kong SAR, the United States and the EU increased by 17.9%, 22.5% and 30.5% year-on-year, respectively.
Foreign trade in goods totaled 27.06 billion patacas from January to February, up 33.3 percent from a year earlier. (1 pataca equals 0.1241 US dollars).
